Everybody Can Create With AI. Taste Still Matters.
AI raises the floor of creation. Taste still decides where the ceiling is.
AI makes creation more available. That is good. More people can make a website, write a script, generate an image, prototype an app, or explain an idea visually. The creative floor moved up.
But the ceiling did not move automatically.
This is where taste matters. Taste is the ability to notice the difference between complete and good. Between polished and meaningful. Between impressive and useful. Between "this works" and "this is the right version."
AI can produce a lot of complete things. It can create a landing page that looks like a landing page. It can write copy that sounds like copy. It can generate a logo-shaped object. But taste asks a different set of questions: Is this specific? Is it honest? Does it fit the audience? Is the hierarchy right? Is it too obvious? What should be removed? Where is the idea?
The people who benefit most from AI will not be the people who accept the first output. They will be the people who can see what the first output wants to become.
AI raises the floor. Taste raises the ceiling.
This is encouraging to me. It means craft still matters. It means learning fundamentals still matters. It means looking at good work, understanding context, practicing critique, and developing opinions are not old skills. They are the skills that make AI useful.
When everyone can make something, the valuable question becomes: who can make the right thing?
That is not gatekeeping. It is responsibility. Creation is easier now, so selection becomes more important. We need more people making things, and we also need more people caring enough to make those things better.
